Boeing Mark IX Interstellar Space Rocket
The "Mark Nine" craft is a skeek silver rocket the size of a battleship. It is 200m high, 40m in diameter at the widest point, and masses over twenty million kilograms. The atomic reactor provides 121 gigawatts of power; this allows a maximum Newtonian acceleration of 110m/s/s (11.23g).
Interstellar travel is made possible by the Einstein drive. This amazing technology, reverse-engineered from an alien craft, uses non-Euclidean principles to place the ship into imaginary space (i-space for short) where it can achieve speeds of up to 120c. Such tremendous velocities allow the ship to cross the space of a light-year in three days.
The craft's main weapon is a beam of pure atomic energy fired from the fore. To counter enemy weapons, the ship is surrounded by an invisible electromagnetic "force field." Reactor power is divided among the engines, firepower, and shields; other systems, such as radar and radio, consume so little power as to be negligible in comparison.
Though the ship is capable of planetary landing and take-off, this may not always be practical. For this reason, the ship comes equipped with two Fokker D4 shuttlecraft.
Boeing Star Carrier
The Star Carrier uses the same body as the ISR - but where the ISR is built for exploration, the SC is built for action. It carries six Mustang Starfighters in addition to its twin shuttlecraft.
Lockheed Q-17 Mustang Starfighter
The Mustang is a sleek silver wedge 12m across. It is designed for one thing: combat. It makes up for in speed what it lacks in firepower and endurance.
Though capable of planetary take-off and landing, the Mustang can carry only the pilot and one passenger.
Fokker D4 Shuttlecraft
The D4 is a tetrahedral craft designed for planetary landings. It is 20m high and masses 6000kg. It has no reactor of it's own; the shuttle relies on a larger ship's reactor to charge its 120GJ battery.
Thanks to its relatively low mass and high charge, the D4 can maintain a thrust of 200m/s/s for days on end before needing a recharge. The craft is capable of much higher accelerations - 6000m/s/s is theoretically possible - but a governor on the engine prevents this. Such intense Gs would kill any humans on board.
The Fokker D4 is fitted with an atomic ray gun much like the ISR's. This allows the shuttle to be used as a support fighter in a pinch. The shuttle has no shields, however (endurance = 0), and the ray gun rapidly drains its energy reserves. Use with caution.
Each shuttlecraft contains a Bantam 6 land rover for scouting on the ground.
Bantam Six-wheeled Land Rover
The 1200kg Bantam "Sixer" was designed specifically for the exploration of other planets. The extra wheels give it added traction and mobility. The oversized tires make it ideal for rough terrain. The vehicle seats six and comes with a tripod-mounted lightning gun. The atomic-powered engine is capable of speeds approaching 200kph (55m/s).
GI Outer Space Jumpsuit
Every member of the ISR crew is issued a custom-fitted silver spacesuit. This charming outfit protects the wearer from extremes of temperature and pressure and gives a +2 to Health for purposes of enduring damage.
GI Fishbowl Helmet
The jumpsuit comes complete with a standard fishbowl helmet. This item allows the user to breathe in hostile environments, to filter most pathogens, and to maintain radio contact with fellow crewmen. The built-in visor protects and enhances the wearer's vision in extremely bright or dim conditions.
There are disadvantages, however. Wearers of the helmet are unable to hear anything outside their suit.
Weapons
In a hostile universe, the ready soldier has several weapons at his disposal.
Weapon | Effective Range | Damage |
---|---|---|
Fist | 0 | Health |
Baton | 0 | Health + 4 |
Club | 0 | Health + 8 |
Knife | 0 | Health + 8 |
Melee weapon | 0 | Health + 12 |
Atomic Ray Gun (100kW) | 10 | 6 |
Atomic Ray Gun (1MW) | 10 | 12 |
Atomic Ray Gun (10MW) | 10 | 18 |
Atomic Ray Gun (100MW) | 10 | 24 |
Sonic Disrupter (130dB) | 20 | 10 |
Lightning Cannon (10MV) | 100 | 20 |
Baton: a small bludgeon designed to subdue with minimal harm.
Club: a bludgeon designed to subdue without regard to harm. Most common engineering tools (hammers, wrenches) fall into this category.
Knife: a blade with length less than 20cm.
Melee: a sword, an axe, a spear; any large hand-to-hand weapon designed to kill.
Atomic Ray Gun: each crewman is assigned an atomic pistol for their sidearm. In addition, the ship's armory contains a number of atomic rifles. The only difference between the two is the amount of energy stored; rifles contain one gigajoule of energy, ten times as much as the 100 megajoule pistol.
Both pistols and rifles have multiple settings. The higher the power level, the more energy each shot takes and the more damage each shot does. For example, a fully-charged pistol can fire 1000 shots at the 100kW "Stun" setting, 100 shots at 1MW, 10 shots at 10MW, or 1 shot at the 100MW "Vaporize" setting. A rifle can fire ten times as many shots at any setting.
Sonic Disrupter: this bulky cannon fires an focused beam of intense sound. It is designed to stun creatures who, like humans, are sensitive to longitudinal compression waves of intensities beyond 10 watts per square meter. This weapon may have greater or lesser results in different atmospheres. Useless in vacuum.
Lightning Cannon: this unwieldy device is usually mounted on a tripod - it's too big and heavy to be used effectively without one. The LC uses a Tesla coil to ramp up it's electrode voltage to ten megavolts, causing dialectric breakdown of the atmosphere to occur. The bolt is guided to its target by a microscopic stream of accelerated iron particles.
